Berkshire Piglets with their Mother
Berkshire pigs are a heritage breed, which means it's a breed that's been around for a long time. They are better suited to being raised outdoors.
Berkshire pork is definitely NOT the other white meat. It has great marbling, with lines of fat running throughout. When cooked, the fat melts like butter. The result is juicy, sweet, flavorful, and tender meat.
Berkshire pork is recognized as the most premium pork in the world. On top of that, the breeder we work with sends his pigs every year for progeny testing. His pigs generally score in the top 4 for color, water holding capacity, tenderness, juiciness, and flavor.
At Howerdon Creek Farms, all of our Berkshire sows and boars are registered with the American Berkshire Association.
Our Berkshire pigs eat a feed that's a mix of corn and soy and vitamins and minerals.
Our pigs live at pasture when the weather is nice and in hoop buildings otherwise. They always have fresh air and plenty of room to exercise.
